“The Way We Speak, The Way We Love”

Some days it feels like our words slip out faster than our hearts can catch them.
But God reminds us that our tongues carry weight, life giving weight.
This matters deeply to God.

The Bible tells us:

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue.”

“Let all that you do be done in love.”

“A gentle answer turns away wrath.”

These verses are not just instructions; they are invitations. God is inviting us to live in a way that reflects His heart, especially in how we speak to one another.

Love is not just a feeling, it is a way of treating people.

Love shows up in our tone, our patience, our willingness to pause before we speak.

Love is choosing kindness when irritation feels easier, and frustration rises.

Love is slowing down long enough to see the person in front of us as someone God treasures and loves.

Our words reveal what is happening inside us.

Jesus said that our words flow from the abundance of our hearts. When our hearts are hurried, wounded, or overwhelmed, our words often follow.

But when our hearts are anchored in God’s love, our words become gentler, wiser, and more life-giving.

God invites us to speak with intention.
Not perfectly. Not flawlessly.
But intentionally.

Speak with words that build instead of break.  Speak with words that bless instead of bruise.  Speak with words that reflect the love we have received from God

This kind of speech does not come from trying harder.  It comes from staying close to the One who is love itself.

As we sit with God, He softens our edges, steadies our reactions, and fills our mouths with grace.

Before we speak, we should pause.
Before we react, we should breathe.
Before we answer, we should ask God to shape our words.

We should let our voice be a place where others feel safe, seen, and valued.

We should let our words become seeds of peace in a world that desperately needs gentleness.

And when we fall short, as we all do, we should return to the God who never runs out of mercy.

He is patient with us. He is shaping us, and He is teaching us how to love like Him.

Oh, how God loves us ❤️

Dear Father in heaven,

Thank You for loving us with a steady, patient, and transforming love.

Teach us to reflect that love in the way we speak and the way we treat others.

Guard our tongues from harshness and hurry.

Fill our hearts with compassion so our words become life-giving and gentle.

Help us pause long enough to listen, to understand, and to respond with grace.

Where we have spoken carelessly, forgive us and heal the hearts we may have wounded.

Shape us into people whose words carry Your peace, Your kindness, and Your love.

Make our voices instruments of blessing today.

In Your Son’s precious name, Amen.

Luke 6:45
A good man out of the good treasures of his heart brings forth good; and a evil man out of the evil treasures of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
(This means our words are never just words. They are windows. They show what we are carrying, peace or pressure, compassion or frustration, love or weariness.)

1 Corinthians 16:14
Let all that you do be done in love.
(This is not a suggestion, it is a way of life. Love is the soil from which our words grow.  When love is present, our speech becomes gentler, slower, more thoughtful,
more willing to listen, and more willing to understand.)

Love does not just rush to be right.
Love does not sharpen its tone to make a point. Love does not forget the humanity of the person standing in front of them.
Love remembers that this is someone God made and someone God loves.

Proverbs 18:21
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.
(This teaches us that we do not always realize how deeply our words land on others. A careless comment can linger in someone’s spirit for years, and a gentle word can lift a burden they never told anyone they were carrying.

Matthew 7:12
Therefore all things whatsoever you would that men should do to you, do you even so to them; for this is the law and the prophets.
(This scripture teaches us to go out of our way to do good. Choosing kindness when irritation rises, and treating everyone as someone God loves.)

God invites us to be people whose words bring life. Slowing down makes room for grace. When we pause, even for a breath, we give the Holy Spirit space to guide us.
A simple prayer “Father, help me speak with love” can change the entire direction of a conversation.

Let God heal the places that feel raw or tired, that is where lasting change grows.

Have a blessed day 🙏
God loves you ❤️
and so do I ❤️
