“The Power and Wisdom of God through His Son Jesus Christ”

1 Corinthians 1:18-31

18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
19 For it is written:
“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise,
And bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.” (Isaiah 29:14)
20 Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age?
Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.
22 For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom;
23 but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness,
24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.
25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
26 For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called.
27 But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty;
28 and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are,
29 that no flesh should glory in His presence.
30 But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God and righteousness and sanctification and redemption.
31 that, as it is written, “He who glories, let him glory in the LORD.” (Jerimiah 9:24)

In this chapter Paul begins by saying that the message of the cross -Jesus dying to save us- sounds foolish to people who are spiritually blind. To them it makes no sense.
But to those who believe, the cross is the very power of God.
Wow, a very simple message- believe in His Son Jesus Christ.

Paul goes on to say the Jews wanted miracles and the Greeks wanted a deep intellectual explanation. But the Gospel did not fit either one of these categories.
To the Jews a crucified Messiah was offensive, and to the Greeks it sounded ridiculous. But to those whose hearts God has opened. Jesus through His obedience becomes the Power and the Wisdom of God.

Paul uses holy sarcasm and says even the weakest things God does is stronger than anything humans can produce.
And the simplest things God says is wiser than the greatest human mind.

Paul reminds the church that most of them were not powerful, were not wealthy, or even influential when God called them.

God often choose the overlooked, the broken, the ordinary, or the ones the world has dismissed to share His Truth, so that no one can boast in His presence.

The Glory belongs to God not our human achievements and God uses different people to show His Greatness.

Paul ends by saying that everything we need in order to stand before God we were taught through His Son Jesus.
So if we boast we do so in the LORD alone.

The world still mocks the cross.
People still chase human wisdom, self help, and spiritual short cuts.
Many still think the Gospel is too simple or too foolish. But Gods Truth has not changed. We are saved not by our intelligence, not by our goodness, not by our strength, but by our faith in God through His Son, Jesus Christ.

God uses the weak to shame the strong.
God reveals His Wisdom through what the world calls foolish. And God still calls us to boast only in Him.

Never be ashamed of the message of the cross. Stay humble and stay dependent on God’s Wisdom.

Oh, how God loves us ❤️

Dear Father in heaven,

Thank You for the power of the cross.
Thank You that what the world calls foolish is the very things that saves us.

Father, keep our hearts anchored in Your Wisdom, not the wisdom of this world.

Father, help us walk in humility, remembering that you chose us, not because we were strong, not because we were wise, but because You are merciful and good.

Father, teach us to boast only in You, and to stand boldly for the Truth of the Gospel.

Strengthen us to live in a world that rejects Your Truth, and fill us with courage to shine Your Light.

In Your Son’s precious name, Amen

Have a blessed day
God loves you ❤️
and so do I ❤️
