“The Death, Burial, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ”

Many people have been taught that Jesus died on Friday and rose early Sunday morning. But when we look closely at Scripture and not tradition we see a different and much clearer picture.

Jesus Himself gave one sign to prove He was the Messiah.
He said at
Matthew 12:40
“For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish,
so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.”

Three days and three nights is 72 hours and there is no way to fit 72 hours between Friday afternoon and Sunday morning.

This is what Scripture tells us.

1. That Jesus Died and Was Buried Before Sunset.
Jesus died at the ninth hour around 3 PM.
Mark 15:34–37
And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice saying, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?” which is translated, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken me?”

His body had to be buried before sunset because a Sabbath was beginning. John 19:31
Therefore, because it was the Preparation Day, that the bodies should not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for the Sabbath was a high day), the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

(But this Sabbath was not the weekly Saturday Sabbath.)
John says it was a “high day” an annual Sabbath connected to the Feast of Unleavened Bread.
Read again John 19:31

Leviticus 23:6–7 says,
And the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of Unleavened bread. On the first day you shall have a holy convocation, you should do know customery work on it.

This means Jesus died on Passover, the 14th day of the first biblical month known as (Abib/Nisan), exactly as the Law described.

2. Jesus was in the tomb for a full 72 hours.
If He was buried shortly before sunset, then 72 hours later would also be shortly before sunset.

That means the resurrection happened before sunset, not at sunrise.

3. Jesus Was Crucified in the Middle of the Week
Daniel prophesied that the Messiah would be “cut off… in the middle of the week.” Daniel 9:27
Then He shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; but in the middle of the week He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering..

The middle of the week is Wednesday.

Putting the pieces together:

Wednesday before sunset Jesus was buried.
Three days and three nights later He rises.
(Before sunset on the weekly Sabbath-Saturday).

When the women came early Sunday morning, He was already gone.
Matthew 28:1–6
Now after the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb.
And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it. His continence was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. And the guards shook for fear of him, and became like dead men. But the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified.
He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come see the place where the Lord lay.

The Bible fits perfectly when we follow Scripture instead of tradition.

Wednesday- 1st night
Thursday- 2nd night
Friday- 3rd night
Thursday- 1st day
Friday- 2nd day
Saturday- 3rd day

(And then, before Sunset He Rises.)

This is not about arguing or dividing. It is about honoring and seeing the Truth of God’s Word.

Jesus fulfilled every prophecy exactly.

Jesus truly was the Passover Lamb.
Jesus  truly was in the grave three days and three nights.
And Jesus truly rose just as He said.

The Truth strengthens faith. The Truth glorifies God.
And The Truth sets people free.

Oh, how God loves us ❤️

Thank You for giving us Your Son, the spotless Lamb who willingly laid down His life for us.

Thank You for the Truth of Scripture that guides, corrects, and reveals Your perfect plan.

May we praise You for the death, burial, and resurrection of Your Son our Lord and King Jesus Christ.
