“Gratitude is not Seasonal”
Habakkuk 3:17-18
Though the fig tree may not blossom, Nor fruite be on the vines; Though the labor of the olive may fall, And the fields yield no food; Though the flock may be cut off from the fold, And there be no herd in the stalls- Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in God my Salvation.”
Are we are so preoccupied with what we do not have?
Or have we just learned to thank God for what we do have?
These questions pierce my heart gently but deeply.
They echo the cry of Habakkuk, a prophet who looked around and saw devastation, empty fields, failed crops, no visible provision. And yet, he chose joy and gratitude.
Gratitude is not pretending everything is perfect. It is the sacred practice of seeing God’s goodness even when life feels barren. It is the whisper of faith that says,
“I may not have what I want, but I have the One I need.”
I think of Paul and Silas in prison.
Shackled, bruised, and surrounded by darkness, they sang hymns to God.
Acts 16:25
But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.
Their praise was not based on circumstance. It was rooted in relationship. They knew the presence of God was more powerful than any prison.
Now pause…
Whether you are reading this from a place of plenty or a place of pain, ask yourself:
What do you have today that you can thank God for? Is it breath in your lungs? Is it
a memory of love? Is it a promise in His Word?
Gratitude shifts our gaze. It lifts our eyes from the lack of not having, to seeing what God has given, and it does not ignore the ache but invites God into it.
If we are rich, then we should thank Him for the opportunity to bless others.
If we are poor, then we should thank Him for being our Provider.
If we are healthy, then we should thank Him for the strength to serve.
If we are sick, then we should thank Him for His sustaining grace.
Gratitude is not seasonal. It is spiritual.
And it is always in style.
I have learned to be grateful in every season of my life.
Oh, how God loves us ❤️
Dear Father in heaven,
Thank You.
Not just for the things we see, but for the unseen ways You hold us together.
Teach us to rejoice like Habakkuk, even when the fields are empty.
Help us sing like Paul and Silas, even when the walls close in.
Forgive us for the times we have focused on what we lack instead of what we have.
You are our portion, our strength, our song.
Whether we walk through abundance or adversity, let our hearts be anchored in praise.
Let gratitude be our posture, our perspective, and our proclamation.
In Your Son’s precious name, Amen.
Have a blessed day
God loves you ❤️
and so do I ❤️
