“Dying Daily”
I read this on Facebook and it stirred my heart, and I wanted to share it along with a thought and a scripture the LORD has laid on my heart.
Not every struggle is spiritual warfare. Sometimes, it is simply our flesh.
We rebuke. We bind. We cast. We pray and
we fast.
Meanwhile, God is saying, “I already told you what to do with that.”
You can not cast out pride- you must humble yourself.
You can not cast out unforgiveness- you must forgive.
You can not cast out lust-
you must flee.
You can not cast out selfishness-
you must die to yourself.
You can not cast out your flesh-
you must crucify it.
And crucifixion/dying daily hurts.
It hurts to say “no”-
when our flesh is screaming “yes.”
It hurts to stay faithful-
when compromise looks easier.
It hurts to choose obedience-
over convenience.
It hurts to forgive-
someone who never apologized.
It hurts to love-
our enemies.
And it hurts to deny ourself.
But the cross was never meant to be comfortable.
We have become a generation that wants deliverance without discipleship, freedom without surrender, power without obedience, and victory without dying to ourself.
The flesh will always vote against the will of God. Scripture never tells us to negotiate with it, but it does tell us to crucify it- to die daily to ourself.
The beautiful part is this every time we tell our flesh “no,” we are telling the Holy Spirit “yes.” Every act of obedience weakens what once controlled us, and every surrender makes us look a little more like Jesus.
So why do we continue to ask God to remove the very thing He is calling us to put to death.
The battle is not won by casting out our flesh. It is won by nailing our flesh to the cross again and again, every single day.
And here is the promise- resurrection always follows crucifixion. And there is life on the other side of dying to ourself.
Paul said, “I die daily.”
1 Corinthians 15:31
I affirm, by the boasting in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.
Not once. Not occasionally. Daily.
Dying to ourself is not a punishment-
it is the pathway to life in the Spirit.
Every surrender makes room for Christ to live more fully in us.
When we crucify the flesh, we are not losing ourselves. We are finding the life God promised.
Every “no” to the flesh becomes
a “yes” to freedom, and every surrender becomes a seed of new life.
Oh, how God loves us ❤️
Dear Father in heaven,
Teach us to die daily. Not in despair, but in devotion.
Give us the courage to crucify what keeps us from You, and the grace to walk in the life Your Spirit offers.
Where our flesh is loud, let Your voice be louder.
Where obedience feels costly, remind us of the cross.
Shape us, refine us, and make us more like Jesus.
And as we surrender, let resurrection life rise in us.
In Your Son’s precious name, Amen.
Have a blessed day
God loves you ❤️
and so do I ❤️
