“Truthfulness In Scripture”

A time to speak a time to be silent.

Proverbs 12:18
The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

Wisdom guides how and when truth is spoken.

Scripture does not equate silence with lying. A lie is an intentional falsehood.
But silence can be wisdom, especially if speaking would cause unnecessary harm.

Ecclesiastes 3:7
A time to be silent and a time to speak.

There are moments when restraint is godly.

Proverbs 17:27-28
The one who has knowledge uses words with restraint… Even fools are thought wise if they keep silent.

Silence can be honorable.

The Bible also calls us to discernment:
James 1:5
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

Sometimes the Spirit leads us to wait, sometimes to speak. Not telling someone something painful is not automatically lying.

If silence is motivated by love, prayer, and wisdom, then it can be righteous.
But if silence is used to deceive, manipulate, or cover sin, then it edges into falsehood – lying…

This is our guiding principle:
Truth in love, seasoned with grace.

Colossians 4:6
Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

In the end, Scripture teaches that truthfulness is not only about the words we speak, but the wisdom behind them. There is a time to speak and a time to be silent, and both can honor God when guided by love, humility, and discernment.

This silence is not the same as lying; it becomes unrighteous only when used to deceive. But when silence protects, preserves, or waits for God’s timing, it becomes an act of wisdom.

May every word we choose bring peace rather than harm.

Oh, how God loves us ❤️

Dear Father in heaven,

Help us to know when truth will heal and when silence will protect, so that our words or our restraint will bring life and not harm.

Show us silence can be wisdom when truth would wound rather than heal.

Teach us to walk in integrity, never deceiving, yet always discerning.

Guard our tongue from reckless words, and guide our heart to speak truth in love.

May every word or every pause bring life, comfort, and glory to You.

In Your Son’s precious name, Amen.

Have a blessed day
God loves you ❤️
and so do I ❤️
