“Weary and Distracted”

This has been me for the last week or so.

Scripture never pretends that believers float through life untouched by exhaustion or distraction.

God repeatedly shows us that people who loved Him deeply yet struggled to stay centered.

Martha was “distracted with much serving.” (Luke 10:40).

Elijah was so overwhelmed he asked God to take his life. (1 Kings 19:4).

David cried out, “My heart is overwhelmed.” (Psalm 61:2).

Paul admitted, “We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure.” (2 Corinthians 1:8).

When we are tired it is not a sign of spiritual failure. It is a sign we are human and God meets humans with compassion, not condemnation.

Scripture says,

“Be still and know that I am God.”
(Psalm 46:10)
This is not a command to stop moving.
It is an invitation to stop striving.
Stillness is not inactivity, it is surrender.

“Return to your rest, O my soul, for the LORD has been good to you.”
(Psalm 116:7)
God knows the soul wanders and He simply calls it back.

“Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
(Matthew 11:28)
Jesus does not say,
“Come to Me once you get it together.”
He says, “Come as you are, tired, distracted, overwhelmed.”

“Set your mind on things above…”
(Colossians 3:2)
This is not a one-time act.
It is a daily, sometimes hourly, re-centering.

Sometimes we get caught in a cycle and
life pulls at us from every direction, family, caregiving, work, health, responsibilities, unexpected crises.

This is where I have been. I got busy. I got tired and I got spiritually distracted.

We all do sometimes and then we feel guilty. So, we try harder in our own strength and we get even more tired.

But Scripture says,

Remember who holds us. We do not hold our faith together.
“God holds us.” (Jude 24).
Our job is not to perform. It is to remain connected.

God never asks us to “start over.”
He simply says, “Come back.”
Just like the prodigal son, the Father runs toward us the moment our hearts turn.

Our encounters with God do not have to be long to be real.  And this is hard to remember when we are so caught up in all the business of our life.

But just a whispered prayer.  Just a verse read slowly.  Just a breath of gratitude, or just a moment of stillness, can be seeds that grow us.

We need to learn to let God into the chaos.
We do not need a quiet room to meet with God.  We can meet Him in the car, in the kitchen, in the doctor’s office, or in the middle of caregiving, and He will walk with us in the noise.

I’m back, and I want to encourage all of you from my own valley.

We do not need perfect examples, but we do need honest ones. I got distracted, overwhelmed, and caught up in the business of my life.
And I want to use my weariness as an opportunity to say,
“I’ve been there. God met me there,
and He will meet you too.”

When we are tired, distracted, or spiritually scattered. It does not mean we are failing, or we are forgotten.

We are loved.  We are held.  We are invited back into rest, and we are welcomed without hesitation.

God is not asking us to do more.
He only wants us to come closer.

Oh, how God loves us ❤️

Dear Father in heaven,

I come to You tired, stretched thin, and  overwhelmed by the weight of life.

Father, You see every burden all of us carry, every distraction that pulls at our hearts, and every moment we feel like we are falling behind.

Father, thank You that You never shame us for our weakness, you meet us in it.

Father, draw us back into Your rest.

Quiet the noise inside us.

Remind us that we do not have to earn Your presence. We simply have to turn toward You.

Strengthen every weary heart.

Restore in us what has been drained.
Renew in us what has been dulled. Reignite in us what has grown dim.

Teach us to walk with You in the middle of our busy days and help us encourage others from the places where You have comforted us.

Father, let Your peace guard our hearts and minds as we return again and again to Your presence.

In Your Son’s precious name, Amen.

Have a blessed day
God loves you ❤️
and so do I ❤️
