“Be Kind to One Another”
Ephesians 4:29-32
29 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.
30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice.
32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.
(This passage is a powerful call to spiritual maturity.)
Paul is urging all believers to speak with purpose, to live with compassion, and to reflect Christ’s forgiveness.
When he says-
“Let no corrupt word…”
This should challenge us to examine our speech. Are our words building others up or tearing them down? Corrupt words include gossip, sarcasm meant to wound, or complaints that sow discord.
When he says-
“Do not grieve the Holy Spirit…”
Our actions and attitudes matter.
Because, when we harbor bitterness or lash out in anger… we are resisting the Spirit’s work in us and in our relationships.
When he says-
“Put away bitterness, wrath, and…”
These are heart poisons. Bitterness often stems from unresolved hurt.
When he says-
“Be kind… forgiving…”
This is having a heart like Christ. Kindness is not weakness. It is strength under control. Forgiveness is not forgetting.
It is choosing love over resentment.
*Here are a few examples of how we could apply these things to our daily lives.
*In our homes, we could learn to speak life over our spouses and children, our brother and our sister.
*We could replace criticism with encouragement.
*We could let our words be a sanctuary.
*In conflict, we could pause before reacting and ask ourselves, “Will this response grieve the Spirit or glorify God?”
*In our community, we could be the ones who diffuse tension with tenderness.
And offer forgiveness even when it is not asked for.
*In prayer, we could ask God to cleanse our hearts of bitterness and fill our mouths with grace.
And we could:
Let our light shine, so others might see God through our good works and glorify Him. (Matthew5:16)
Oh, how God loves us ❤️
Dear Father in heaven,
Thank You for Your Word that teaches us to walk in love and truth.
Help us, Father, to guard our tongues and speak only what builds up and blesses.
Cleanse our hearts from bitterness, anger, and anything that grieves Your Spirit.
Teach us to be kind, tenderhearted, and quick to forgive. Just as You have forgiven us through Christ.
Father, may our homes be filled with grace- filled conversations and hearts that reflect Your mercy.
Heal any wounds caused by harsh words or unforgiveness.
Let Your Spirit reign in our relationships, bringing peace, unity, and joy.
Make us vessels of Your love.
Father, may we speak life, sow peace, and live in the fullness of Your forgiveness.
