“Always Be Humble and Kind”
Recently, a dear friend sent me a message. At the end of her note, she shared a simple yet powerful phrase: “Always be humble and kind.”
Those words resonated deeply with me.
In a world that often encourages self-promotion, competition, and standing up for one’s own rights above all else, humility and kindness can feel like rare treasures. Yet, as followers of God, these traits are not merely nice personality quirks they are essential fruit of a transformed heart.
God’s Word places a huge emphasis on how we conduct ourselves toward others.
Humility means recognizing who we are before a holy God and placing others before ourselves. Kindness is love in action showing gentle, generous, and compassionate care to those around us.
In the book of Philippians, Paul writes to the church in Philippi, encouraging believers to do nothing out of selfish ambition or empty conceit. Instead, in humility, we are called to value others above ourselves and to look out not only for our own interests, but also for the interests of others.
Philippians 2:3-4 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.
As God’s chosen and beloved people, we are instructed to clothe ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Just as we put on clothes each morning, we are meant to actively put on these virtues every day.
Colossians 3:12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering;
The prophet Micah reminds us what the Lord requires of us: to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with our God.
Micah 6:8 He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you. But to do justly, To love mercy,
And to walk humbly with your God?
When we wonder what true humility and kindness look like in practice, we do not have to guess. God’s Son, Jesus Christ, is our perfect example.
His Humility: Jesus never demanded His rights or cling to His heavenly privilege. Instead, He emptied Himself, taking on the form of a servant and coming in human likeness. He demonstrated ultimate humility by humbling Himself to the point of death on a cross for our salvation.
His Kindness: Throughout His ministry, Jesus repeatedly showed tenderness to the outcast, the grieving, and the brokenhearted. He took time for children when others dismissed them, showed compassion to the hungry crowds, healed the sick, and offered forgiveness to sinners. His kindness was not passive; it brought healing, restoration, and hope wherever He went.
We can put humility and kindness into action today by-
Listening First:
Humility means being quick to listen and slow to speak, valuing what others have to say rather than focusing solely on making our own points.
Serving Behind the Scenes:
Doing helpful things for family, coworkers, or neighbors without needing recognition or applause.
Choosing Gentle Responses:
Responding with patience and warmth, even when someone is difficult, stressed, or unkind to us.
Forgiving Freely:
Remembering how much God has forgiven us through Christ, and extending that same grace and kindness to others.
Always be humble and kind…
Oh, how God loves us ❤️
Dear Father in heaven,
Thank You for the gift of Your Word and for the encouragement brought through friends in our lives.
I thank You above all for Your Son, Jesus Christ, who walked this earth as the perfect model of humble service and tender kindness.
Father, search our hearts today. Forgive us for the times we let pride, selfishness, or impatience guide our words and actions.
Work in us through Your Holy Spirit to transform our minds. Clothe us in compassion, patience, and grace.
Help us to put others before ourselves, to listen attentively, and to extend warmth to everyone we encounter.
May our lives reflect the light and love of Jesus to a world in need of hope.
In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
Have a blessed day
God loves you ❤️
and so do I ❤️
