I was asked to do a devotional today around Psalm 18:21-23.
“Walking in the Ways of the LORD”
Psalm 18:21-23
21 For I have kept the ways of the Lord,
And have not wickedly departed from my God.
22 For all His judgments were before me,
And I did not put away His statutes from me.
23 I was also blameless [a]before Him,
And I kept myself from my iniquity.
These verses remind me that faithfulness is not perfection. It is direction.
David is testifying that he chose to keep his life aligned with God, even when his own weaknesses tried to pull him another way.
David says, “I have kept the ways of the LORD.”
This is not pride. It is a testimony.
David is acknowledging that staying on God’s path requires intention.
We do not drift into obedience.
We choose it, step by step.
David says,
“I have not wickedly departed from my God.”
David recognizes that wandering is always possible. But David made a decision.
He said,
I will not walk away from the One who has kept me.
This is the quiet strength of a faithful heart. Not flawless, but anchored.
And then David says,
“All His judgments were before me.”
David kept God’s Word in front of him, not behind him.
In our own lives today when scripture stays before our eyes, it becomes a filter for our decisions. It becomes a guardrail for our emotions. It becomes a compass for our steps. And our hearts are guarded because we kept ourselves from our own sinful ways.
David admits he had his own weaknesses. His own tendencies. But he did not excuse them. He resisted them.
God empowers us. But we choose.
God strengthens us. But we have to resist.
This means a daily “yes” to God and a daily “no” to our old self.
God delights in the heart that says:
“I want to walk in Your ways.”
“I want to stay close to You.”
“I want to keep Your Word before me.”
“I want to turn from anything that pulls me away from You.”
And then He supplies the strength to do it.
Oh, how God loves us ❤️
Dear Father in heaven,
Thank You for giving us a path to walk and the strength to walk it.
Help us keep Your Word before our eyes and Your ways in our hearts.
Guard us from wandering.
Strengthen us to resist our own sinful ways and tendencies.
Make our steps steady, our hearts faithful, and our lives aligned with Your Truth.
In Your Son’s precious name, Amen.
Have a blessed day
God loves you ❤️
and so do I ❤️
