“Do We Want to Be Healed?”
There is a question Jesus asked a man in John 5: – a man who had been sick for thirty‑eight years, lying near the healing waters but never stepped into them.
Jesus asked-
“Do you want to be healed?”
It is a question that reaches into the deepest places of us. Not the surface places. Not the places we show others.
But the places where cycles live… where habits hide… where the flesh whispers… where we say one thing to God while knowing another truth inside ourselves.
Many of us pray, “Father, help me stop this,”
while knowing in the back of our mind that we may do it again. We pray for strength,
yet feel the pull of the very thing we say we want freedom from.
We tell God we want change, yet inside we feel the tug of the old self – the part that still wants what harms us.
This is not hypocrisy. This is humanity.
This is the battle of the flesh Paul spoke of in Romans 7: – And this is exactly where God wants to meet us.
Not just in the water of the well, but in the walls of the well. In the cracks. In the hidden places. In the part of us that says,
“I am probably going to do this again.”
Maybe our prayer needs to change. Maybe instead of praying only about the behavior,
we need to pray about the part of us that keeps returning to it. Maybe we should pray: “Father, come into the part of me that still hides from You. Come into the part that wants to go back. Come into the part that lies to myself. Come into the part I do not understand.
”This was David’s prayer:
Psalm 139: –
“Search me… try me… know my thoughts.”
Not just the thoughts we admit, but the ones buried deep the ones we think we are hiding…
Jesus said to take up our cross daily.
Coming to God is not easy because it exposes the truth of our old self. But exposure is not punishment. Exposure is healing. If there is something inside us that does not want the best for us,
then that part is broken and only God can fix it.
We can not fix what we can not reach.
But God can reach what we can not touch
Healing means becoming a new person.
A new story. And having a new direction. And sometimes healing costs us something: Maybe its something we secretly like. Maybe its someone we love. Maybe its a habit we cling to. Maybe its a public image we protect. Maybe its a comfort we return to.
But Jesus said: – “What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world but loses his soul?” (Matthew 16:26)
We gain everything when we choose God.
We gain everything when we want to be healed. Because the moment God sees a broken heart, the moment God hears true repentance… God is with us – personally, immediately, and faithfully.
Not because we are perfect. Not because we never fail. But because God is merciful, forgiving, and near to the brokenhearted.
Do we want to be healed?
Oh, how God loves us.
Dear Father in heaven,
Search the deepest places of our hearts.
Shine Your light into the cracks, the hidden corners, the places we do not fully understand.
Come into the part of us that struggles, the part that returns to old things, the part that fears change.
May we confess our weakness, and may we ask for Your strength.
May we confess our cycles, and may we ask for Your freedom.
May we confess our broken places, and may we ask for Your healing.
Make us willing to be made whole.
Teach us to die daily, to surrender daily, and to walk in the newness You offer.
May we want to be healed, Father, – truly, deeply, and completely.
And may we trust that You are faithful to finish what You have begun.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Have a blessed day
God loves you ❤️
and so do I ❤️
