“My Commandments”
John 14:21
He who has my commandments and keeps them, it is He who loves Me.
And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.
The heart of Jesus’ words here at John 14:21 is beautifully simple: love for Him is proven by obedience to the things He has taught.
“My commandments,” especially since Jesus was speaking as the Son of God- not the Father who gave the Ten Commandments at Sinai.
Jesus was not replacing the Father’s commandments, nor contradicting them. He was revealing the Father’s heart more fully and personally.
When Jesus said “My commandments,”
He was pointing to the teachings He delivered directly to His disciples.
These include:
Love one another- “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another as I have loved you” (John 13:34).
This is the centerpiece of all His instruction.
Abide in Me- remain connected to Him in trust, obedience, and relationship.
(John 15:4).
Forgive others- not seven times, but seventy times seven.
(Matthew 18:22).
Seek first the Kingdom- prioritize God’s reign over every earthly concern.
(Matthew 6:33).
Take up your cross- follow Him with self-denial and faithfulness.
(Luke 9:23).
These are not suggestions. They are commands rooted in love.
God’s commandments fulfilled and elevated.
Jesus does not discard the Father’s commandments. Instead, He reveals their deeper intent.
Examples:
The command against murder becomes a command against anger and hatred. (Matthew 5:21–22).
The command against adultery becomes a command against lust of the heart. (Matthew 5:27–28).
The command to love your neighbor expands to love your enemies.
(Matthew 5:44).
Jesus’ commandments are the Father’s commandments brought to their fullest spiritual meaning.
Trust in the One the Father sent.
John 6:29 says:
“This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.”
Belief in Jesus is not optional.
It is commanded.
And obedience begins with faith.
The Command to Keep His Words is not just hearing, but doing.
Jesus repeatedly says that His true disciples are those who:
hear His words, treasure them, obey them, and build their lives upon them.
(Matthew 7:24)
This is the obedience that proves love.
Obedience leads to manifestation.
This is what Jesus said:
“…he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.”
To “manifest” means to make Himself known, experienced, and real in the life of the believer.
Not through visions or mystical experiences, but through:
deeper understanding of the Word, increased sensitivity to God’s Spirit, greater peace, clarity, and guidance.
A growing likeness to Jesus character.
Obedience opens the door for intimacy.
Oh, how God loves us that He gave His only begotten Son ❤️
Dear Father in heaven,
I thank You for sending Your Son, our Savior, who speaks Your heart with perfect clarity.
Help us to understand the commandments of Jesus, not as burdens, but as invitations into deeper love.
Teach us to obey His words with sincerity, humility, and joy.
Remove anything in us that resists His voice.
Let His teachings shape our thoughts, our choices, and our relationships.
May Your Son, O’ God manifest Himself us.
Strengthen us, Father, to love as Your Son taught us, and to serve as He served.
May our obedience be the evidence of our devotion.
And may Your peace rest upon all who read and receive this message.
