“Trust Him in the Waiting”

I told this story last year & wanted to share it again… I love this story…

The Story of Ruth.
This story unfolds during the time of the Judges, a period of instability in Israel.
Due to famine, Naomi & her family move from Bethlehem to Moab. Ruth 1:1-2

Tragedy strikes,Naomi’s husband dies. Ruth 1:3, & Naomi’s two sons take wives.
Ruth 1: 4.

Then about 10yrs later Naomi’s 2 sons die, leaving her & her 2 daughters-in-laws, Ruth & Orpah, widowed. Ruth 1:5.

Now Naomi heard that there was food in Bethlehem- in the land of Judah again & decides to return. She urged her daughter in-laws to stay in Moab with their families. She told them she was old & could not have more sons for them to have another husband. (In those days it was custom if a young woman lost her husband, then one of his brothers would take her for their wife & take care of her.) Orpah listened to Naomi & returned to her family, but Ruth clinged to Naomi. Ruth 1:6-15.

Then Ruth said to Naomi:
“Entreat me not to leave you, or to turn back from following you; For where ever you go I will go; And where ever you lodge, I will lodge; Your people shall be my people, and your God, my God.
Where you die, I will die, and there will I be buried. Ruth 1:16-17.

Naomi & her family served God. Her daughter in-laws & their families served many gods – (idols.) So when Ruth said Naomi’s God would be her God, this was big to Naomi.

Now Naomi & Ruth are in Bethlehem & living back at Naomi’s old home.

Naomi’s deceased husband had a wealthy relative by the name of Boaz, & he owned much land with many fields. Ruth gleaned in these fields to provide food for her & Naomi. (Gleaning was something the poor, the widows, & foreigners would do for food.
This was a practice rooted in God’s law to provide for the poor.)

One day while Ruth was gleaning, she met Boaz. Ruth chapter 2: (Many x’s Ruth refers to Boaz as lord, that is because house owners, property owners, the wealthy, & kings were some times in those days referred to as lords.)

Naomi, in hopes to seek security for Ruth’s future encouraged Ruth to let Boaz know she was interested in knowing him.
(They had really, oddly, sweet customs back in this time.) Ruth chapter 3:

Boaz was not the closest relative in line who could take Ruth as his wife & he had to make an agreement with a close relative who would have been in line to marry Ruth.

At the end of this story, Boaz, showed favor to Ruth & eventually fulfills the role of kinsman-redeemer, by marrying her & restoring Naomi’s family line. Ruth 4:

Other names listed at the end of this chapter come from the blood line of Abraham & the 12 tribes. Obed, Jesse, David… So, Ruth and Boaz were King David’s great grandparents.

Ruth, was not a jew. She was a Moabite woman, in the lineage/bloodline of Jesus Christ.

Ruth, just a foreigner, with unwavering devotion to Naomi & to God, became part of God’s covenant story, showing that grace extends beyond boundaries.
Her actions reflected humility, perseverance, & faith. And it opened the door to divine favor & redemption.
Ruth’s quiet labor in the fields speaks volumes. She did not seek recognition or reward, only provision for her & Naomi.
Yet in her humility, God saw her heart.

Through her faithful steps, God orchestrated a divine encounter with Boaz, a man who would change her life.

Like Ruth, we may find ourselves in seasons of quiet gleaning, doing the unseen, uncelebrated work of love, service, or perseverance. But God sees. He honors the hands that gather in faith & the hearts that trust Him in the waiting.

Ruth’s story reminds me that humble obedience opens doors to divine favor, & that even in the margins, God is writing redemption.

Oh, how God loves us ❤️

Dear Father in heaven,

Thank You for the story of Ruth, a woman of quiet strength, unwavering loyalty, & humble faith.

Teach us, Father, to glean with grace &
to labor in love even when no one sees, trusting that You see.

In seasons of little or uncertainty, help us to  remember that Your provision often comes through simple acts of obedience.

May we never despise small beginnings, but embrace them as sacred steps toward Your purpose.

Like Ruth, may we learn to walk with humility, serve with joy, & wait with hope.

And when the time is right, may Your favor find us in the field.

In Your Son’s precious name, Amen.

Have a blessed day
God loves you ❤️
and so do I ❤️
