“Eternal Life”

Eternal life, according to Scripture, is a gift from God through our faith in Jesus Christ.

This is how I read it and understand it according to Scripture.

John 3:16
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

-This verse is part of a conversation between Nicodemus and Jesus.
Nicodemus is trying to understand the teachings on being born again.
-Jesus explains the importance of being born again through the Spirit in order to enter the kingdom of heaven.
He tells Nicodemus that belief in Him leads to eternal life, while rejection results in separation from God.

Romans 6:23
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

-This verse is part of Paul’s letter to the Romans, where he talks about sin and grace.
In Romans chapter 6:
Paul tells them that believers are no longer slaves to sin but are called to live in righteousness. He tells them that sin leads to death, while God offers life through His Son Jesus Christ.
In verse 23, Paul uses the word wages, illustrating that the payment of sin is death.
And follows that up with eternal life being a gift from God, not something we earn.

John 14:6
“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'”
In chapters 13 and 14
Jesus is trying to prepare His deciples for His death. He also tells them that He is going to prepare a place for them in His Father’s house.
But, Thomas wants to know how they can know the way to where Jesus is going?
Jesus declares in verse 6 that He is not only the way but the very path to God.
(Jesus is the source of eternal life.)

1 John 5:11-12
“And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.”

-This verse is part of John’s letter to early Christians. In chapter 5, John reassures believers that their faith in Christ grants them eternal life and that apart from Him, eternal life can not be obtained.
He ends this saying that those without Christ remain spiritually separated from God.

All these verses tell us that eternal life is found in Christ alone. It is not earned by works but received through faith in Him and the One who sent Him.

John 17:3
“Now this is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”

Oh, how God loves us that He sent His only begotten Son..❤️

Dear Father in heaven,

I just want to thank You for the gift none of us could ever earn and none of us could ever deserve— eternal life through Your Son, Jesus Christ.

Thank You for loving us so deeply that You sent Your only begotten Son to rescue us from sin and death.

Your Son is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. May we believe in the One You sent.
May we rest in the salvation He purchased with His own blood.

May we rejoice that eternal life is not found in our works, our strength, or our goodness, but in knowing Him, the One sent from You.

Father, help us walk in this truth every day.

Let our hearts stay tender, grateful, and confident in the promise that whoever has Your Son has life.

Thank You, Father, for the gift of eternal life. Thank You for Your mercy, Your grace, and Your unfailing love.

In Your Son’s precious name, Amen.

Have a blessed day
God loves you ❤️
and so do I ❤️
