“The Light Within”
Luke 11:34-36
The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore, when your eye is good, your whole body also is full of light. But when your eye is bad, your body also is full of darkness.
Therefore take heed that the light which is in you is not in darkness. If then your whole body is full of light, having no part dark, the whole body will be full of light, as when the bright shining of the lamp gives you light.
The “lamp of the body is the eye.”
In these verses Jesus is speaking of spiritual perception. How we see, discern, and respond to truth.
A good eye is a heart that receives truth humbly, sees God rightly, and welcomes God’s ways. When the eye is good, the whole inner life becomes full of light, clarity, purity, wisdom, and holiness.
A bad eye is a heart clouded by unbelief, pride, or self‑will. And when the eye is darkened, the whole inner life becomes confused, shadowed, and spiritually dull.
** Jesus’ warned – “Take heed that the light which is in you is not darkness.” Meaning to guard the inner lamp. Protect what we allow into our heart and to keep our spiritual sight clear.
Luke 11:33
No one when he has lit a lamp, puts it in a secret place or under a basket, but on a lampstand, that those who come in may see the light.
”This verse reveals God’s intention.
God never lights a life so it can be hidden.
God lights us so others may see – not to glorify us, but to reveal and glorify Him.
** Our life, our testimony, our compassion, our obedience, our faithfulness – this is the light placed on the lampstand for those who come into see.
Matthew 5:16
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
”Here Jesus defines what the “shining” looks like.
Good works- mercy, integrity, faithfulness, obedience, love, service. Truth spoken gently. Holiness lived quietly. And compassion shown consistently.
These are not works done to be seen, but works that can not help being seen because they reflect the character of our Father taught to us by His Son.
**The purpose is that when others see this light shine then they may glorify our Father in heaven.
This light is not for self‑promotion. It is to reveal our God, our Father.
Do we let the “light” God’s Truth, God’s Spirit illuminate in our inner life?
Is God’s works that is taught to us by His Son, Jesus Christ, expressed through our hands? Is God’s love shining through our conduct? Is God’s holiness shaping our choices? Is God’s compassion flowing through our words? Is God’s presence seen in our daily living?
Is the light Jesus speaks of in these scriptures shining outward through everything we do, for all to see?
Are we guarding the eye – that keeps our spiritual sight clear? Are we receiving truth humbly? Are we welcoming God’s correction and guidance? Are we walking in obedience?
Our light grows brighter through our obedience. And we should practice good works – not for applause for ourselves, but again for God’s glory.
For God’s Spirit is the light that lives within us. Let love lead us – for love is the brightest expression of God’s light.
Whether the light within us feels bright or barely flickering. It is meant to be seen.
The question is not how large our light is.
But… Is our light shining so our Father in heaven is glorified?
Oh, how God loves us ❤️
Dear Father in heaven,
Thank You for the light You have placed within us.
The light of Your truth, Your Spirit, and Your presence.
Keep our eyes clear, our hearts humble, and our steps obedient.
Let every part of us be filled with Your light, with no corner left in the shadow.
Place our life on whatever lampstand You choose, and let Your goodness be seen through our words, our works, and our walk.
May those who encounter us encounter Your love, Your mercy, and Your holiness.
Shine through us, Father, until all glory returns to You alone.
In Your Son’s precious name, Amen.
Have a blessed day
God loves you ❤️
and so do I ❤️
