“Jesus, the Living Word”
Before the stars were hung or the oceans roared, the Word existed.
Eternal, radiant, and divine.
The New Testament most clearly identifies Jesus as “the Word.”
But other verses also affirm His role as the living message of God.
John opens his Gospel with a breathtaking truth:
John 1:1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
This foundational verse introduces Jesus as eternal, divine, and distinct from yet united with God.
This Word is not a concept or a sound.
It is a Person. Jesus, the Son of God, is the living expression of the Father’s heart.
“the Word”
He did not remain distant.
“the Word” became flesh and dwelt among us.”
John 1:14
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
In Jesus, the invisible God became visible.
This verse confirms that “the Word”- “Jesus” took on human form.
Every healing touch, every parable, every tear shed, the man at Lazarus’s tomb was “the Word” speaking life into a broken world.
The book of Revelation declares that even in glory, He is called “the Word of God.”
His name is eternal, His message unchanging.
Revelation 19:13
He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God.
This prophetic image of Jesus at His return affirms His eternal identity as
“The Word.”
These next few verses while not using the exact phrase “The Word,” reinforce Jesus as the embodiment of God’s Truth and revelation.
Hebrews 1:1-2
God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in times past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom He also made the worlds;
This reminds us that in these last days, God has spoken to us by His Son.
Not through thunder or fire, but through a gentle Savior who walked dusty roads, touched and healed broken bodies, ate, slept, cried, prayed to our Father, preached of the kingdom to come and bore our sins.
Jesus, He is the ultimate communication of God’s will.
1 John 1:1
That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of Life-
This verse refers to Jesus as the Word of life, echoing John’s Gospel.
Colossians 1:15–17
He is the image of the invisible God, the first born over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.
Jesus is the visible expression of God’s nature and creative power.
1 Timothy 2:5
For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.
Jesus bridges the gap between God and humanity, fulfilling the role of divine messenger.
To know Jesus is to hear the heartbeat of heaven.
He is “the Word” that calms storms.
He is “the Word” that heals.
He is “the Word” that breaks chains.
He is “the Word” that speaks peace.
He is “the Word” that confronts sin.
He is “the Word” that saves.
He is “the Word” that exposes darkness.
He is “the Word” that lights every step we take.
He is “the Word” that restores what was stolen.
He is “the Word” that silences the accuser.
He is “the Word” that was spoken over creation, and
He is “the Word” that will be spoken when He returns in power and judges the nations in righteousness.
Oh, how God loves us that He gave His only begotten Son… ❤️
Dear Father in heaven,
Thank You for sending Your Son, the Word made flesh, to dwell among us.
In Him, we see Your mercy, Your truth, and Your glory.
Your Son, is the living message, written not on tablets of stone, but on the hearts of those who believe.
Father, speak into our lives today.
Silence the noise of fear and confusion with Your voice of peace.
Let Your Word dwell richly in us, shaping our thoughts, guiding our steps, and renewing our minds.
May we treasure Your Word, not just in scripture, but in the person of Jesus.
Help us to listen, to follow, and to reflect His light in a world that desperately needs it.
Speak, and we will follow.
In Your Son’s precious name,
Amen.
Have a blessed day
God loves you
and so do I
